$1 Weekly Item- Mush’s Savory Lahmajune
A couple of months ago, I wrote about Mush Bakery – the Armenian Fresh Bread spot (across the Street from Jitlada in the 99c Store complex) who’s name made me giggle. Research proved Mush to be a historical Armenian province and not the American Mush that graced my Dinner Plate as a child. Either way I was drawn to enter.
Since my giggle, I’ve been a weekly patron to the community serving bakery. Usually, there’s a pleasant woman behind the counter - always willing to tell you what center fillings are in the Beorek’s and/or what’s just come out of the oven. The sign reads like an In & Out menu and the food’s just as fresh; Mush Bakery makes small batches of Pizza Oven Baked Beoreks and Lahmajunes – and pops them back into their 500+ degree oven upon purchasing. You should be hungry about now.
Their Lahmajune is a fine exemple of just how flavorful and simple Armenian breads can be. The dough is made in house, as is the thin layer of acidic tomato concentrated sauce. The lamb is prevelant and finely ground – offering the final balancing piece to this Middle-East Pizza.
The price, 90c a ‘pie,’ makes it a steal of a meal and this week’s $1 Weekly item!
Mush Bakery (Across From Jitlada): 5224 W Sunset Blvd/ Los Angeles, CA 90027
